| COMMENTS WELCOME |
| Comment
on the Visitor Industry Alternative to the Denali Vehicle Management
Plan |
As many of you know, Denali National Park and Preserve has undergone a
multi-year planning process to improve bus service on the Denali Park
Road. The Draft Vehicle Management Plan Environmental Impact Statement was
released on August 1, 2011, and the comment period was extended until
October 31, 2011, which is approaching rapidly.
A subset of
the ATIA Tourism Planning Committee, the Denali Road Work Group (made up
of a wide cross section of small and large tourism businesses with an in
depth knowledge of the Denali Park Road and vehicle operations thereupon)
has met several times to compose the Visitor Industry Alternative for this
plan.
Your comments are welcome! Please
click here to review the current draft of the Visitor Industry
Alternative. Time is of the essence, so please
submit your comments this draft alternative to Lois Wirtz by 4:00 pm
on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Once your comments are received, the Visitor
Industry Alternative draft will be updated and presented to the ATIA
Tourism Planning Committee and then to the ATIA Board of Directors for
approval.

Leaders Pledge Support for Tourism |
At last week’s ATIA Annual Convention & Trade Show, we were pleased
that numerous elected officials joined us by speaking in support of the
Alaska travel industry. Thank you to Governor Parnell, Senator Davis,
Senator Egan, Representative Herron, Representative Munoz and Commissioner
Bell for listening to our statewide tourism delegation. As the 2012
legislative session approaches, we appreciate the passion and support you
expressed in defense of our businesses and jobs.

| Thank
You ATIA Convention Delegates |
Also at last week's convention, ATIA members like you participated in
many programs to grow and strengthen Alaska’s tourism community. Our
thanks to all who donated to the government relations auction, bid in both
the silent and live auctions, contributed to the Alaska Travel PAC through
the 5k run/walk and pledged donations to the ATIA Foundation scholarship
fund. Thank you also to the 120 ATIA members who volunteered to write to
their legislators as part of the ATIA Grassroots Coalition!
