A Strategic plan for Destination Marketing Organizations and Land Management Planners
WHY DEVELOP WINTER?
Expanding Winter Tourism will provide many opportunities:
- Economic development for communities and regions
- Creation of jobs
- Expansion of the current operating season for member businesses
- New business opportunities
- Enhanced visitor appreciation of winter and the role of public lands
- More opportunities for Alaskans to experience and enjoy winter
By working together to develop Winter Tourism, we can share the benefits of economic growth statewide. It will take collaboration and a purposeful commitment to key strategies. This website outlines steps that can, if taken seriously by Destination Marketing Organizations and Land Management Planners result in significant economic growth in Winter Tourism in 2012. The ATIA Board of Directors charged its Marketing Committee to put forth a marketing plan that will go hand in hand with these strategies. Forces are in motion to better promote and share the magical world of Alaska’s winter to the world!
As you will see from exploring the many ideas presented in this site, we believe it is not necessary to develop the entire winter season. Our initial plan is to encourage new business opportunities from February 1 to April 15. There are many opportunities to work together to promote great winter events and activities across our regions during this concentrated time frame.
Additionally, we have learned a lot from the Interior and Far North regions that have developed strong Winter Tourism programs in Alaska. We are fortunate these regions have shared their successful strategies that can be applied by all regions.
The pages to the right are intended to provide direction and inspiration for your community, region, or agency. You will find the ideas and concepts noted here to be fairly simple and straight forward. The real power in all this is that, with a concerted effort, we can do these things together and experience success with Winter Tourism in Alaska!
