How it Works
New to the ATIA convention, or willing to make a first-timer friend? When you register, check the box that indicates you’d like to be a “mentor,” or that you’re a first-time delegate to ATIA’s convention. You’ll be matched with a buddy whom you can meet in advance, or simply connect with once you arrive in Anchorage. Mentors and first timers will be randomly matched, and big-hearted and generous mentors may take on more than one first-timer if they’d like.
The mentor program will be added to the convention survey in order to improve it in the coming years.
Information for prospective mentors
Mentor responsibilities are as follows:
- The mentor will meet with their first timer before or at the First Timers’ Breakfast on Tuesday, October 7.
- Assist with choosing which workshops / programs would benefit the first timer
- It is up to the mentor / first timer how much time is spent together
- It is recommended that the mentor introduce the first timer to other attendees
- Sharing information is invaluable, as it may provide the first timer with a more valuable convention experience
First Timer
- The First Timers’ Breakfast is an opportunity for first timers to meet their mentors. It is recommended that first timers attend the First Timers’ Breakfast on Tuesday, October 7 with their mentor

Community Night Big Wild Apple
Come join ATIA¹s Anchorage Chapter as it hosts a fitting tribute to this year¹s convention theme Success and the City on Community Night, Oct. 8. This year¹s community night features a salute to Midtown Anchorage, and features multiple stops at several Big Wild Anchorage venues. As we tip our hats to an Alaska version of the Big Apple, we¹ll visit a number of different locations like the Alaska Zoo, the Aviation
Heritage Museum and Rust¹s Flying Service, Alaska Wild Berry Products, the Sourdough Mining Company and the recently expanded and renovated Peanut Farm. A passport will check you in to your evening and provide opportunities to win prizes even Donald Trump would approve of. You won¹t want to miss this party!

Final Night Reception & Banquet
This year our "Black &
White" Final Night Reception & Banquet will be a spectacular farewell to
our attendees. Begin by mingling with friends, new and old, on the third floor
foyer and mezzanine area of the Dena'ina Convention Center, followed by the
honoring of those who put their hearts and souls into their community as well
as the visitor industry. Enjoy a three course meal and be sure to participate
in the Government Relations Live Auction.
Convention Attire
The key to the convention is
comfort. This is a business casual occasion with the exception of the Final Night
Reception & Banquet which is a black-tie affair. Please be prepared for
damp fall weather with average temperatures of 20 - 30 degrees low and 30 - 40
degrees high.
