2017-2018 Alaska Tourism Marketing Board Application Process

The Alaska Tourism Marketing Board (ATMB) was established by the Alaska State Legislature and signed into law in 2014. The ATMB is a Board within the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (DCCED) and was created to cooperate with the department to plan and execute a destination tourism marketing campaign that is in the public interest; and to make recommendations to the department regarding tourism marketing.

The ATMB consists of 21 members, including 18 members appointed by the Governor of Alaska who represent different segments of the tourism industry, company sizes and regions of the state. There are seven (7) seats on the board that will be appointed/re-appointed by the Governor. The ATMB legislation sunsets June 30, 2018.  All 7 seats will be appointed to serve out the remainder of this duration.

The ATMB shall meet at least twice a year, however the Chair can request additional in person and/or call-in meetings throughout the year. Industry members of the board do not receive a salary/per diem for service on the board and are responsible for their own personal and travel time and expenses.

By statute, the Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA), as the leading statewide nonprofit tourism marketing association, will submit a list of nominees to the Governor. ATIA seeks qualified candidates for the ATMB with five years or more experience in tourism marketing. The ATIA Board of Directors will review the applications received and approve the list of nominees to be forwarded to the Governor’s office.
