The scholarship program was originally formed under the Alaska Visitor Association (AVA) in 1997. In 2001, AVA became ATIA and the foundation incorporated as the ATIA Foundation. Since 2001, the Foundation has awarded $260,000 in scholarships to more than 130 individuals. From Ketchikan to Nome and Kodiak to Tok with a special Rural Award benefiting villages and small communities. The scholarship program strengthens the travel industry across the state and assists in the education of Alaskans working in tourism.
