Tuesday, Governor Walker announced his proposed budget for next fiscal year. Tourism marketing funding and the cruise ship head tax were among the different program reductions as well as revenue generating ideas included in the Governor’s budget information. The tourism marketing program was reduced by 28% with a budget amount of $4.5 million from the general fund. Historically, the travel industry has raised an additional $2.7 million through the sale of cooperative marketing programs. If the budget remains unchanged during the legislative process, this reduced amount will impact the types of cooperative marketing programs available to sell to industry businesses and the revenue amount generated from industry.
