Sled dog kennel

Job Excerpt:

Wildthingz Dog Mushing is home to 32 Alaskan husky sled dogs and 2 mushers, including Richie Beattie, 3 time Yukon Quest finisher and 1 time Iditarod finisher. We are looking for a summer handler to help us with daily dog chores and homestead upkeep, as well as helping with our summer tour operation.

This position is for July 9th through September 5th, 2022 (dates somewhat flexible.)

We are in cantwell, 30 mins south of Denali National park.

This posting is for people 18+

We need a hard working, motivated and open minded individual who enjoys the outdoors, loves dogs and has a curiosity about life off grid in Alaska.

Our dogs are our life so we expect whoever works with us to be super excited about learning about sled dogs. You’ll be tasked with working 3-4 days a week with daily dog chores, including watering, feeding, poop scooping and more.

You’ll be expected to help with our tours that operate twice daily, helping greet guests, hook up the dogs for a run and more.

We often have projects around our property so you must be able to lift 50 lbs and get your hands dirty.

Housing is provided: a 10×12 ft canvas wall tent, fully equipped with all comforts and necessities. We are off grid so you will have limited solar electricity, an outhouse and no running water.

The job is only required 3-4 days a week so you will be welcome to work elsewhere part time or travel on your days off.

Transportation isn’t required but you’ll want to have a vehicle to get around and do errands or explore.

Payment: $300/month food/gas stipend, plus tips from tours and $ from cleaning airbnbs.

This is a wonderful opportunity to live in a beautiful place and work with professional sled dogs and acquiring other skills!
