Cultural Garden Director

Job Description

Job Purpose
This position is located within the traditional territory of Skagway Traditional Council, in Skagway Alaska, with primary responsibility in overseeing the operation of the Skagway Culture Garden tour experience, retail operation.

Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise, recruit and train staff in retail and visitor information/tour guide within the Cultural Garden.
Plan and develop a tour product within the garden for a positive visitor experience that revolves around Alaska Native Culture.
Order retail items and set up a retail shop.
Create sales agreements for STC members to sell their product at the Cultural Garden.
Work with Alaska Native & First Nations people to host traditional skills, demonstrations, storytelling and performances, etc.
Secure all necessary permits and licenses for business operations.
Create marketing strategies for the business and have working knowledge of business use of social media.
Work with tour companies, tour brokers, cruise lines and other business partners.
Manage rental of garden and facility for special events.
Manage a strict & balanced budget for all Cultural Garden business activities.
Participate in STC meetings and submit written reports to the Tribal Council.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include:
BS degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience with references in tourism hospitality, retail, food & beverage and staff management.
Must be able to work independently.
Ability to deal with the public pleasantly and provide a positive image of the tribe.
Strong written, verbal and computer skills (MS Office etc.)
Geographical, historical, and cultural knowledge desirable
Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand and or sit for a few hours at times.
Must have a valid US Driver’s License
