Qualifications:

A BS/BA degree in public relations/journalism/communications or relevant field and three or more years of progressively responsible experience writing and disseminating information to a variety of audiences. Exceptional writing and editing skills are required. Strong experience in written and oral communications is required as is the ability to work well with industry members, public officials, staff, volunteers, the media and the public. Solid experience with social media, including travel blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Knowledge of Alaska’s visitor industry and resource or land management preferred. Good organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and work on numerous projects simultaneously.

Major Activities:

Alaska Tourism Marketing Program (estimated 75 percent of responsibilities)

  • Under the guidance of ATIA’s Vice President, develop and manage communication strategies with the goal of raising awareness of Alaska as a visitor destination.
  • Conduct social media programs for the Alaska tourism marketing program to engage audiences across traditional and new media.
  • Create content for press releases, e-newsletters, websites, etc.
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting travelers and industry and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy, including writing key messages.
  • Manage in-state media inquiries, press events and interview requests. 

 

Alaska Travel Industry Association (25 percent of responsibilities)

  • Develop and manage all public relations and communication strategies with the goal of increasing engagement of business to business networking among members.
  • Develop effective corporate communication strategies.
  • Conduct social media programs for the Association to engage audiences across traditional and new media.
  • Create content for press releases, e-newsletters, websites, annual report, internal communications, etc.
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy, including writing key messages.
  • Manage in-state media inquiries, press events and interview requests.

 

Salary and Position Type:

This is an exempt position and reports to ATIA’s President & CEO
