About the ATIA Board of Directors
The Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA) is governed by a member-elected board of directors which guides the Association’s priorities as the state’s leading nonprofit membership association for the Alaska travel industry. The board of directors approves ATIA’s annual budget and takes action on issues important to tourism businesses and partners. Made up of members representing small and large tourism businesses and different sectors of the travel industry, the board is comprised of regional representatives, including elected directors from the Arctic, Interior, Southwest, Southcentral, and Southeast regions of the state. Directors also are elected to At-Large and Outside seats. In 2023, the ATIA board of directors voted to create a dedicated seat for a member of a federally recognized tribe in Alaska or a shareholder of an Alaska Native Corporation.

ATIA Mission Statement
The Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA) will be the leading industry organization promoting Alaska as a top visitor destination, communicating and promoting the Alaskan tourism industry as one of the state’s major economic forces, and will be the respected voice of the industry for the growth of the industry, while remaining stewards of the state’s natural resources, cultures and Alaska’s unique quality of life.
Overview of Board Service
The board typically meets 4 times a year in person with remote participation options, though we strongly encourage in-person attendance. The first meeting is the annual retreat which is usually two days in November or December. It is scheduled this year for December 3-4. Regular meetings are usually one day each in February, June, and August. There are two short organizational meetings held at the annual convention in October, this year on October 22-24. Meetings typically move around the state between Juneau, Fairbanks, and Anchorage, with occasional visits to other communities.
ATIA asks board members to attend the annual convention, miss no more than 2 board meetings each year and commit to serving on 2 committees. Those include finance, government relations, tourism policy & planning, marketing, board development, cultural enrichment, and awards. Committee meetings are usually one hour long and held via zoom with the exception of marketing which usually meets in person for one full day prior to board meetings.
Travel costs to board meetings are the responsibility of board members.
