Frequently Asked Questions

Applicants must be Alaskan residents enrolled or intending to enroll in a program of study in preparation for a career in tourism. A tourism career focus may include, but is not limited to, areas such as recreation, hospitality, marketing, or business.

Applications for the Student Scholarship Program can be submitted online and must be received no later than January 31 at 5:00 PM AKST. Late applications will not be considered. 

Applications for the Professional Development Scholarship Program are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year based on fund availability.

Applicants for the Student Scholarship Program will be notified in early to mid-April. If awarded, scholarship checks are mailed directly to educational institutions in July of the application year. Scholarship recipients are notified when checks are distributed.

Applicants to the Professional Development Scholarship Program will be notified within two weeks of submitting their application.

Yes. Alaskans seeking to enhance their education in fields related tourism may apply to the Professional Development Scholarship Program.

ATIA Foundation Student Scholarships range from $500 to over $5,000.  Professional Development Scholarships can be awarded up to $1,000 per applicant.

ATIA Foundation Student Scholarships are 1-year awards. Funds may be applied to tuition, books, and fees beginning fall semester of the application year.

Scholarships for the Professional Development Scholarship Program are one-time awards that pay for a specific educational opportunity.

The ATIA Foundation is funded through the generosity of Alaska Travel Industry Association members and member businesses.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply for both the Student and Professional Development Scholarship Programs on an annual basis.
