Grounds & Maintenance Position
Job Description
The BaseCamp Grounds & Maintenance team member is the hands-on force that keeps BlueWater BaseCamp looking as spectacular as the Chugach Mountains surrounding it. From mowing and caring for lawns and gardens to stocking the sauna and fire pit with split wood, to handling light maintenance across eight chalets and the event venue, this role ensures the property is always in its best condition for guests. You'll operate equipment including a riding mower, leaf blower, weed whacker, 4-wheeler ATV, and wood splitter. On mornings when guests are in residence, you'll occasionally assist with continental breakfast as needed.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS JOB
Most people would pay good money to spend their mornings in the Eklutna Valley with the Chugach Mountains at their back. You get to work here. This role is perfect for someone who loves the outdoors, takes pride in a beautiful, well-maintained property, and finds deep satisfaction in physical, hands-on work that produces visible results every single day.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Groundskeeping — Lawns, Gardens & Outdoor Spaces
• Water, fertilize and mow lawns and pathways on a regular schedule across the 5 acre campus using appropriate equipment, tools and products for Alaska's growing season; monitor turf health and adjust as needed based on rainfall, temperature, and seasonal conditions. Assist with seasonal lawn prep at season open and close: aerating, overseeding, winterizing as directed.
• Tend to garden beds, hanging baskets, and planters throughout the property — deadheading spent blooms, weeding, fertilizing, mulching and monitoring for stress, pests, or disease thoughout the season
• Rake, mulch and clear garden areas, pathways, parking areas, chalet patios, and event lawns of debris, clippings, leaves, and natural litter after mowing and storms. Monitor property drainage after heavy rain; report pooling, erosion, or drainage concerns to the GM
• Keep the overall 5-acre campus looking manicured and guest-ready at all times — the grounds are a signature part of the BWBC experience
Firewood, Sauna & Fire Pit
• Split firewood using the on-site wood splitter; maintain an adequate supply throughout the season
• Stock and restock the community fire pit area with split firewood for daily and nightly guest use
• Stock and restock the sauna with firewood; ensure the sauna is ready for guest use on scheduled days
• Keep fire pit and sauna exterior areas clean, clear, and guest-ready at all times
Equipment Operation
• Operate all equipment on-site safely and efficiently to include: riding and push lawn mowers, 4-wheeler (ATV), wood splitter, leaf blower and weed whacker following all safety protocols
• Perform basic equipment checks and report any mechanical concerns to GM
Light Maintenance — Chalets & Property
• Conduct regular walkthrough inspections of all 8 chalets, The Gathering House, and common areas for minor maintenance needs — proactive identification is key
• Replace burned-out bulbs, tighten loose hardware, touch up minor scuffs, and address visible wear before guests arrive
• Address basic minor plumbing issues: clogged drains, running toilets, loose fixtures, and showerhead adjustments
• Check and clean chalet appliances periodically: coffee makers, stovetops, microwaves, and refrigerators — ensure all are functioning properly
• Inspect and maintain accessible equipment
• Maintain outdoor amenities: Inspect and report on condition of patios, steps, and walkways — flag and address safety hazards
• Assist with light seasonal property projects as directed by GM: deck staining, touch-up painting, caulking, weatherproofing
• Maintain a basic inventory of common repair supplies: bulbs, batteries, fuses, hardware, cleaning materials
Housekeeping & Breakfast Assistance (Secondary / As Needed)
When the Guest Experience Host team needs additional support — during high-occupancy periods, back-to-back group turnovers, or busy event weekends — the Grounds & Maintenance team member may be called on to assist with housekeeping or continental breakfast. These are secondary duties, not daily expectations, and are coordinated by the GM based on property needs.
Housekeeping Assistance:
• Assist with chalet turnovers during high-occupancy or multi-checkout days: stripping and remaking beds, resetting bathrooms, taking out trash
• Carry and transport laundry loads (linens, towels, duvets) between chalets and the laundry area
• Help restock chalet supply carts and welcome basket items between guest stays
• Assist with resetting The Gathering House or outdoor event spaces after large group departures
Breakfast Assistance:
• Assist with continental breakfast setup or replenishing items when the Host needs support
• Help with beverage service — coffee, juice, and hot drinks — during busy morning periods
• Assist with breakfast breakdown and cleanup as directed
• Follow all food handling and hygiene standards during any food service involvement
Note: Combined housekeeping and breakfast assistance is occasional and typically limited to 1–3 hours on any given day. It will not be a daily expectation.

• Ability and willingness to safely operate an ATV (4-wheeler) on property
• Comfort operating a wood splitter; commitment to safety protocols
