JOB TITLE : Deckhand
Lazy Otter Charters is a family owned business operating four vessels in Prince William Sound, Alaska. We offer water taxi, custom sightseeing, guided kayaking, photo/film support, freight service and towing/salvage work. Our vessels range from 6 to 30 passengers. We operate year-round throughout Prince William Sound. Our charter office/café in Whittier serves as our headquarters. We offer housing options in Whittier.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Lazy Otter Charters is looking for Deckhands for March through Oct and the summer season, May through Mid-September out of Whittier. Deckhands work onboard with a Captain to ensure safe navigation of vessels performing water taxi, sightseeing towing and salvage work in Prince William Sound. Duties also include ensuring guest comfort and safety, food service, cleanliness of the vessel and interpretive information to the guests. Applicants must be flexible and comfortable working in a dynamic charter business that changes quickly.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Working onboard vessel ensuring guest safety and customer service for water taxi and sightseeing. Vessels vary from 30ft – 6 pax to inspected vessels including 40ft – 22 passenger landing craft and a 46ft – 30 passenger catamaran, All vessels are beachable for loading and unloading passengers, kayaks and freight.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interacting with guests ensuring safety, food service and naturalist information.
Load and secure kayaks and freight – keeping in mind weight, balance, and stability
Knowledge and interpretation of natural history, marine environment, geology, flora and fauna, and history of Prince William Sound.
Cleanliness of vessel before, during and after cruise.
QUALIFICATIONS
Able to pass USCG pre-employment and random drug tests
Previous customer service experience
Must be 18 years of age for insurance purpose
Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or Biology background is helpful
Applicants interested in training and acquiring sea time to become captains will be given first consideration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Able to life 50-75lbs on a regular basis *Able to stand, sit and kneel for extended time *Able to climb a ladder
Able to pass USCG Physical
