Lead Rental & Adventure Guide

Location: Eklutna Lake, Chugach State Park, Alaska
Dates of Training: May 20th, 2023 – May 27th, 2023
Dates of Employment: May 28th – September 30th, 2023
Job Type: Full-Time Hourly (40 hours per week, usually Tuesday – Saturday)
Starting Pay: $18/hour, plus gratuity.

ABOUT US:
Lifetime Adventures originated in the 1990’s with the concept of providing unique adventure-
inspired experiences to visitors of Alaska. Bear viewing, photography tours, northern lights
viewing, bike, ski, and kayak rentals, and guided tours were part of the original lineup of
experiences in existence from the 90s until 2022. Lifetime Adventures was also known for their
exceptional management of Alaska State Park campgrounds.

Recently, new ownership arrived in 2023 carrying the same philosophy of offering awe-inspiring
experiences to out-of-state visitors. Now, Lifetime Adventures is positioned to continue offering
bike and kayak rentals at the majestic Eklutna Lake, while providing guided kayak, bike and
hiking experiences to visitors with the plan to add new experiences in the future.

JOB SUMMARY:
Our lead rentals and adventure guide will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations
at the Lifetime Adventures building at Eklutna Lake. You will be responsible for issuing and de-
issuing gear and equipment to participants renting bikes and kayaks. This involves properly
fitting them, taking their payment using a reservation system and CC processor, and getting a
signed waiver. You will also be responsible for providing a safety briefing to guests
participating in our activities.

We also host a variety of individuals, couples, families, small and large groups that want to have
a guided tour. You will be responsible for providing a safe guided experience featuring either
kayaking, biking, or hiking. You will be responsible for the safety, socialization, and education
of our guests. You will be expected to understand basic route-finding, how to handle emergency
situations, apply wilderness first aid, CPR, and how to communicate with the proper authorities.
This role requires that you interact with guests in a professional and introspective manner. You
will also need to understand the basics of photography and how to use technology such as an
iPhone or iPad.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Rent and equip guests with gear such as: PFDs, paddles, kayaks, bikes, poles, etc. Must be
able to properly fit guests with respective equipment.
• Guide guests on kayaking, biking, and hiking tours in and around Eklutna Lake.
• Help guests put-in and take-out of the water for kayak-related activities.
• Provide safety briefing before tours regarding water safety, large animals, and other hazards.
• Ensure guest safety and provide medical care if needed.
• Provide leadership and decision making for small and large group tours. Should be able to
make good decisions pertaining to risk and probability.
• Delegate tasks to the assistant rental and adventure guide and other co-workers on site.
• Deliver high-quality experiences to guests through expert ability, education, and socialization.
• Provide expert narration regarding the park’s history, flora, fauna, and other resources.
• Maintain bikes and kayaks. Will need to adjust brakes, derailers, peddles, rudders, etc.
• Maintain professionalism and respect towards others during difficult situations.
• Take payments from guests using a credit card machine and booking software.
• Build, maintain and be safe around campfires. Should be able to use a saw or splitting maul.
• Apply humility and politeness during checkout and guided tours.
• Be timely and communicative with both co-workers and guests.
• Offer and serve guests food and water.
• Clock in and out using a timesheet or web-based application.
• Capture photos during the tour.
• Use a satellite messenger and communicate effectively in periods with no cell-service.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• Should be familiar with paddling and peddling, and perform the respective, basic techniques.
• At a minimum, you must possess a valid First Aid or CPR certification. Wilderness First Aid
or Wilderness First Response certifications are preferred.
• Be able to drive an ATV on dirt-road with a loading trailer.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive yourself to and from Eklutna Lake.
• Must be able to work the entire dates of employment, May 20th – September 30th.
• Possess a passion for kayaking, biking, hiking, and spending time in the wilderness.
• Comfortability interacting with others. Remain calm during stressful situations.
• Excellent customer service skills with a presentable, well-groomed personality.
• Punctual and reliable.
• Comfortable working alone and taking initiative.
• Physically able to endure the duration, distance, and elevation gain for the respective tour.
• Understand weather patterns, and when to disallow an activity based on them.
