Job Description
The Mat-Su Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau has retained SearchWide Global to find an inclusive, innovative, and open-minded professional to serve as the new President & CEO.
Convenient to both Anchorage and Denali National Park, easily reached by car or the Alaska Railroad, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley sprawls across 23,000 square miles of pure Alaska wilderness. The Mat-Su Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau is a non-profit organization formed in 1986 to promote the Mat-Su visitor industry. They currently have a 10-member board of directors representing more than 200 members, mostly small tourism business owners in the Mat-Su Borough.
The President & CEO is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and administration for the Mat-Su Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau and will direct and lead the organization toward its mission.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the efficient and effective administration of Mat-Su CVB programs in accordance with its mission, goals, and objectives established by the board of directors.
- Distribute information, reports, and materials relative to all matters requiring Board action to ensure the board of directors is motivated and reaches an informed decision.
- Responsible for developing, overseeing, and managing the Mat-Su CVB budgets adopted by the board of directors.
- Ensures the financial health of the organization.
- Develop and build key stakeholder relationships and partnerships.
- Recruit, motivate, and evaluate staff and contractors to accomplish the mission, purpose and goals of the association.
- Represents the Mat-Su CVB at local, state, and national events and is the primary spokesperson for the organization’s membership, the media, and residents.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Expected to be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and highly organized.
- Proficient in general office skills, especially computer skills, use of office equipment and financial reporting.
- At least five years of professional experience in a related field: economic development, community development, strategic planning, destination marketing, or destination development.
- Experience working in the tourism industry is highly preferred.

TOP PRIORITIES
- Project manage the construction of the new Visitors Center.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders, including elected borough officials and members, and get to know the destination.
- Evaluate the existing organization, including, but not limited to, marketing plan, staff, organizational structure, budget, mission, policies, and procedures.
- Lead the rebranding efforts.
- Evaluate the existing Sustainable Tourism Marketing Plan.
- Ensure that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are woven into the fabric of the organization and strategic plan.
