Above and Beyond Alaska (ABAK) is a local guiding company based in Juneau, Alaska that has been facilitating outdoor adventure experiences on the ocean and ice for over 21 years. Employing a staff of 40 seasonal team members, ABAK offers an opportunity to experience glaciers, bears, and whales through a combination of canoe, kayak, packraft, foot, boat, and float plane travel. We are dedicated to safety, customer service, and environmental conservation with a goal of providing a complete Alaskan wilderness experience by sharing with our clients our passion, technical know-how, and natural history knowledge.

The Tourism Sales Manager oversees all sales, marketing, advertising, social media, customer correspondence, and hiring of sales staff. This position manages all sales of the tour department to ensure revenue and guest satisfaction standards are met. This includes sales from all cruise lines, tour operators, travel agents, other travel professionals, and direct bookings through our website. This position works directly with the General Manager and Director of Operations.

An ideal candidate has a minimum of two years’ experience in a sales and marketing position, preferably in the visitor industry, and excellent managerial and supervisory skills including written and verbal communications. In addition, leadership experience, strong organizational skills, and a high level of attention to detail is key to this position.

Requirements:
Exceptional at sales - minimum of two years’ experience in a sales position, preferably in the tourism industry
Management experience – minimum of two years’ experience
Experience coaching, teaching, and/or mentoring individuals and groups
Ability to lead productive team meetings and effectively communicate with coworkers.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Computer literacy – competent with Microsoft Word and Excel, able to type 40+ WPM, capable of learning online booking and POS systems.
Advanced verbal, written, and electronic skills.
Outgoing personality, superb customer service skills, and superior phone skills.
Creative writing skills - ability to write blogs and press releases for a company (work samples must be submitted).
Strong organization, proofreading, and editing skills.
Multi-tasking ability and can function under pressure and tight deadlines.
Ability to interpret financial data as needed to set goals.
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced tourism environment.
A valid driver’s license and clean driving record for the past 5 years
Must have reliable transportation.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
A valid Adult/Child First Aid & CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications (optional):
Previous experience working in cruise ship tourism.
Bachelor’s degree in Sales and Marketing, Outdoor Tourism Recreation, Hospitality Management or Business Administration, or related work experience
Knowledge of Southeast Alaska’s weather, ecosystems, wildlife, and glacial environments
Familiarity with ABAK’s systems, policies, and procedures

Job Description: duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Sales: Manages all sales of the tour department to ensure revenue and guest satisfaction standards are met, leads the team in closing sales, leading and monitoring communications with the sales team and all sales relationships to ensure customer satisfaction, processing reservations, communicating with customers, conducting sales calls, generating new sales leads, and setting up new vendor contracts. Ensures monthly sales goals are met and collaborates with the management team to increase sales revenue. Supervises and trains sales staff in effective selling and upselling.
Reservations: Responds promptly to customer emails, phone calls and online chats. Processes customer reservations in the booking system. Manages reservation systems to ensure inventory increases are available based on demand.
Customer Service: Oversees customer service and satisfaction of trips. Maintain a well-informed, working knowledge of the accommodations, activities, attractions, and services that are available for visitors in Juneau. Respond to customer reviews online (Tripadvisor, Google, Yelp, etc.). Facilitates the highest level of professional communication and customer service with all partners and customers to increase sales, execute marketing projects, and build a positive reputation for the business.
Marketing and Advertising: Develops and expands marketing and advertising opportunities including, but not limited to social media, website development, community outreach, print media, blogs posts, and networking. Ensure that ABAK’s branding guidelines are incorporated into marketing messages and promotional materials. Reviews website, tour broker websites, and cruise line websites regularly to ensure marketing content is updated, accurate, booking links are working etc. Write blogs and press releases for the company, and assist with Social Media Outreach (Facebook, Instagram Posts).
Networking: Represents ABAK at community, industry, and sales events throughout the year to increase revenue opportunities, fortify the ABAK brand, and advocate for ABAK interests. Additionally, actively builds relationships and rapport with all sales agents, including cruise ship partners, outside of day-to-day operations.
Cruise Ship Relations: Builds strong relationships with cruise line shore excursion staff. Assist with communications between shipboard staff and management of onsite excursion sales. Track and monitor cruise ship sales then make all necessary adjustments to ensure sales goals are met.
Vendor Relations: Maintain and update vendor contact list. Oversee communication and compliance of contracted tour providers, agents, dock vendors, and cruise lines. Fulfill inquiries from cruise lines, tour operators, and travel agents within one working day. Familiarization trip planning, scheduling, presentations, execution, and follow-up. Assist management team with account payables and receivables for vendor/cruise lines sales.
Travel: Must be available for in-state and domestic travel to attend meetings and conventions, as well as some evenings and weekends for social networking.
Hiring, Training, Scheduling: Responsible for hiring a sales team which includes tour representatives, tour coordinators, and sales specialists. Facilitate training for all these positions. Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of assigned staff, and audits timesheets. Manage all new staff hiring paperwork and required onboarding forms. Collect and maintain employee records and hiring agreements.
Misc: Running errands and other ad hoc tasks as needed.

Schedule:
April - September
40-50 hours per week, days off during the summer season vary.
October - March
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday
This position is not eligible for remote work nor a hybrid schedule.

Compensation & Benefits:
$60,000-$72,000 per year, DOE
